HISTORY
For 150 years, Caves Orsat has been cultivating a winegrowing tradition in the heart of the Valais.
A Valais winery steeped in values
Founded in 1874 by Alphonse Orsat in Martigny, Caves Orsat is closely linked to thousands of small winegrowers in the Valais. Together, they have built a cooperative model imbued with human and social values, true to their roots.
Every year, we still buy grapes from more than 1,100 suppliers spread between Salquenen and Martigny. This strong link with local winegrowers reflects our commitment to quality winegrowing.
A social and winegrowing pioneer
Alphonse Orsat was not only a visionary in the creation of exceptional wines. He was also one of the first to set up a provident fund for his employees, a rare social initiative at the time. This commitment remains at the heart of our identity, and we continue to value practices that respect not only the winemaking tradition, but also the people who make it possible.
he treasures of our winegrowers
While the reputation of Fendant 13 Etoiles and Dôle Romane has been established for almost a century, the range has been extended since 1988 with Primus Classicus wines. This range is made up of wines from a meticulous selection of grapes from the best winegrowers. It gives pride of place to the indigenous Valais specialities of Arvine, Cornalin and Humagne rouge.
Between tradition and modernity
In 1981, Caves Orsat moved from Martigny town centre to the south-east of the town. After the death of its founder and a few turbulent years, Caves Orsat became part of the Rouvinez family in 1998.
Over the past 150 years, Orsat has forged the identity of an entire part of the canton of Valais through its vineyards and wines. Social responsibility, commitment, quality and rigour: these are the values that guide our winery.
